I participated interesting course by Tommaso Sgobba: “Quality Assurance (QA) for Space Projects” organized by ESA/Czech Space Office. It was very interesting and stories told us by Thommaso were very helpful, so now I have much better idea about space industry.
There is few things from Thommaso’s presentation I would like to share with you:
Story of 4 people EVERYBODY, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY and NOBODY
There was an important job to be done and EVERYBODY was asked to do it.
EVERYBODY assumed that SOMEBODY would do it. ANYBODY could have done it but NOBODY did it. SOMEBODY got angry about that because it was EVERYBODY’s job.
EVERYBODY thought ANYBODY ought to do it, but NOBODY realised EVERYBODY wouldn’t do it. Finally, ANYBODY blamed EVERYBODY for not helping NOBODY and SOMEBODY wisely concluded that NOBODY is the most helpful person in the company.
So this to responsibility and authority. And as Thommaso said, the worst case is when you have responsibility but no authority.
And one other thing:
“Do not let the bureaucracy to win over common sense”
So it is nice we have all that documents, certification and standards like ECSS, ISO 9001, EN 9100 etc., but still we have to use our brains, and thinking actually pain!
No worries my first space project is coming - CTU in Prague just joined ESMO project, we will be developing ADCS Interface Module. Thursday is the kick-off meeting.
