Several days ago I just finished...

Paulo Coelho - The Alchemist

Several days ago I just finished listening to audiobook of this title (in Czech of course). Impression from this book is really serious. And that lead me to this post. I thing everyone should read it. At least once. For some that can represent just a story about a boy who is experiencing extraordinary experiences, but for the others the story of this book can change their understanding of their lives.

I was surprised when I realised that several ideas in this story are precisely analogic to what I understand as modern physics. Just one case: Theory of everything, or TOE, is what scientists are looking for today, and we are told that the alchemist emeral plate in this book explains everything. There is really lot of astrophysics and philosophy behind this story.

ESTEC I am coming!

It was very interesting and stories told us by Thommaso were very helpful, so now I have much better idea about space industry.

There is few things from Thommaso’s presentation I would like to share with you:

Story of 4 people EVERYBODY, SOMEBODY, ANYBODY and NOBODY

There was an important job to be done and EVERYBODY was asked to do it.

EVERYBODY assumed that SOMEBODY would do it. ANYBODY could have done it but NOBODY did it. SOMEBODY got angry about that because it was EVERYBODY’s job.

EVERYBODY thought ANYBODY ought to do it, but NOBODY realised EVERYBODY wouldn’t do it. Finally, ANYBODY blamed EVERYBODY for not helping NOBODY and SOMEBODY wisely concluded that NOBODY is the most helpful person in the company.

So this to responsibility and authority. And as Thommaso said, the worst case is when you have responsibility but no authority.

And one other thing:

“Do not let the bureaucracy to win over common sense”

So it is nice we have all that documents, certification and standards like ECSS, ISO 9001, EN 9100 etc., but still we have to use our brains, and thinking actually pain!

No worries my first space project is coming - CTU in Prague just joined ESMO project, we will be developing ADCS Interface Module. Thursday is the kick-off meeting.

CTU in Prague

CTU in Prague

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

It is really great reading and I have not finished it yet but I strongly recommend it!

Content of this book is focused on witnesses of near-death experience, or those who has been stated as clinical death and obviously survived to give us a talk.

"I like work: it fascinates me.
I was really amazed with “The Universe in Nutshell” so I decided to try another (more actual) book of S. Hawking. I hope it will be at least as good as the previous one.

Contents:

Thinking About the Universe

Our Evolving Picture of the Universe

The Nature of a Scientific Theory

Newton’s Universe

Relativity

Curved Space

The Expanding Universe

The Big Bang, Black Holes, and the Evolution of the Universe

Quantum Gravity

Wormholes and Time Travel

The Forces of Nature and the Unification of Physics

Conclusions
